The history of mosaic tiles can be traced as far back as three
thousand years.
Our ancestors used cobblestones to pave their homes and roads, providing
a more stable and comfortable passage for both people and animals.
These cobblestone pavements had initially a practical function.
For pure aesthetic pleasure, craftsmen began laying the tiles in
decorative formations. They began with simple geometric pictures,
which over time, became more complicated, adding varying colour
tones and eventually coming to represent real-life scenes of true
decorative value.

A mosaic is
a product of a society as well as a reflection of that society;
its tastes, its customs, its technological advances, its economic
situation, and so on.
